Humanitarian Aid Service Project: School Kits and Tote Bags

Sisters, You are invited! We need you!

What: We will be participating in the Humanitarian Center service project by making school kits and tote bags for children in need. We will be sewing tote bags and then stuffing them with school supplies. We need everyone to come and participate. We will need sisters to sew the tote bags as well as to organize the school supplies and stuff them into the bags.
When: Thursday August 4, 7-8:30 pm
Where: We will be meeting in the Cultural Hall of our building.
We will have a children's class and we will provide light refreshments. Family, Friends and Neighbors are welcome to come and participate!

We are in need of many donations to make this night a success.
Our goal is to make 50 school kits.
What we need:
1. Heavy durable fabric to sew into tote bags, 1 yd fabric needed per bag. There will be a donation box at church or give the fabric to Megan or Leslie by Sunday, July10th. Feel free to sew up some totes and donate the finished project if you wish. The pattern is available at http://www.ldsphilanthropies.org/humanitarian-services/patterns/school-bag-2.pdf You can drop off finished totes to either Megan or Leslie or bring the finished totes to our activity on Thursday August 4th.
Also, the more sewing machines we have the night of the activity, the better. So, if you can, please bring a sewing machine or serger to the activity!

2. Very specific school supplies to stuff into the totes. Each tote requires:

· 4 unsharpened pencils
· 1 rubber pencil eraser - approximately 1x2 inches
· 1 pair blunt nosed scissors with metal blades
· 1 pencil sharpener
· 1 straight edge ruler - 12 inches, with metric
· Glued or spiral bound notebooks with lined sheets, 8 x 10 ½,
or 8 ½ x 11 inches
Notebooks should total approximately 450 sheets
· 1 set assorted colored pencils
at least 12 per set, approximately 7 inches long

To keep us organized and to make sure that we end up with all of the supplies and not 5000 pencils and nothing else, we will be sending around sign-up sheets during 3rd hr or you can sign up here: http://www.helpersignup.com/viewsheet.php?type=2&sheet=c58ec4db253acc30e181ae07c254d589
Please feel free to donate for several items if you can. There is no limit per family on donations. We will accept any donations through the end of August.

Please contact Megan or Leslie with any questions!
